Judicial Review Rules in favour of CQC decision to register GPHC!
In a much-needed win for the transgender community, a judge has upheld the decision by the CQC to both register and grant an ‘Outstanding’ rating to the Gender Plus Hormone Clinic (GPHC) - the UK’s only regulated independent provider of transgender healthcare to both young people and adults. The outcome means that the provider can continue to deliver its services to those aged 16 and over from its UK clinics in London, Birmingham and Leeds.
Open Letter to Wes Streeting
Following your recent announcement that you are "actively reviewing" whether to ban or restrict the private prescription of cross-sex hormones to 16-17 year olds, we are writing to offer our expertise to inform this critical decision.
The potential restriction would leave young trans people with no alternative but to endure the current five-year-plus waiting times for NHS gender services – a delay that can have profound consequences during these crucial developmental years.
Our Leeds Clinic is Now Open
We are delighted to announce that following the highly successful roll-out of our pilot clinic in Leeds, the newest base for our CQC-rated "Outstanding" service is now officially open and welcoming patients. This expansion represents our ongoing commitment to providing accessible, high-quality gender-affirming healthcare throughout the region.
Letter to the editor at The Times
In the recent article NHS swaps gender drugs for ‘holistic’ care published in The Times (05/04/2025) NHSE’s James Palmer is quoted as saying that in the year since the Tavistock GIDS closed, the new services have not identified a single patient likely to benefit from gender affirming treatment. This is despite thousands being on the waiting lists at the replacement Children and Young People’s gender services.

New Puberty Blocker trial important but unlikely to provide the answers we need
News about the NHS allocating £10m in funding for a Puberty Blocker trial is welcome and long overdue. However, it's hard to see how any of the evidence produced from this study will directly address many of the concerns that were raised in the Cass Review.
Political Interference in Transgender Healthcare sets a Dangerous Precedent
As a clinical psychologist specialising in transgender healthcare, I have become increasingly alarmed by the systematic attempts to use politics to restrict access to essential medical care for transgender individuals.
Why language matters
In a troubling move, the Trump administration recently announced plans to remove terms like “gender,” “assigned at birth,” and “queer” from the federal lexicon. Under the guise of a supposed return to traditional values, this policy effectively erases the identities of millions of people who don’t fit within the stereotypical boxes of outdated, binary gender norms.
