Title: Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or Systemic Psychotherapist

Pay: In line with NHS band 7/8a depending on experience

Hours per week: 22.5 - 37.5 hours per week

Contract Type: Salaried

Location: London, Birmingham or potentially Leeds with hybrid working

Responsible to: Director

Accountable to: Line Manager

 Gender Plus is a gender healthcare and education service serving the UK and Ireland. We provide specialist multi-disciplinary based gender assessment, support and treatment services with a developmental approach. We also deliver training and education relevant to our clinical work and expertise.

We are a team of clinicians specialising in gender identity with related qualifications and skills in delivering psychological therapies as well as neurodevelopment assessment and support. This is in addition to specialist gender assessment and endocrine expertise. Gender Plus has been set-up to meet the need for timely access to high quality gender care that is person centred, holistic, respectful and comprehensive. Our team are experts in the field (many have worked for several years in NHS gender services) and feel passionately about the rights of the transgender and non-binary population to access appropriate care.

 

Job description

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or Psychotherapist with a passion for trans healthcare to join our growing service. The post holder will provide gender assessments and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The successful applicant will have experience working with people with Gender Diversity, and experience in the systemic assessment, formulation and intervention of individuals with a range of psychological needs that  can be complex in nature, relevant to the needs of people with gender diversity.

  • Academic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential- Clinical or Counselling Psychologist

●      Post-graduate qualification in Doctorate of Clinical or Counselling Psychology that gives the holder registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)

●      The applicant will be competent in at least one form of the following psychological therapy approaches: CBT (including DBT) or Systemic therapy.

Essential- Systemic Psychotherapist

●      Post-graduate qualification in relevant mental health/social welfare profession and demonstrable practice in this field

●      Masters level qualification in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy or equivalent qualification, accredited by UKCP.

●      Additional training in a specialised area of systemic practice through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, OR an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma

●      Registered with the UKCP as Systemic Psychotherapist and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the UKCP.

  • Experience/Knowledge

Essential

●      Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist under supervision in a clinical area relevant to working with CYP with Gender Diversity

●      Experience of providing specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention with clients across with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in a clinical area relevant to working with CYP with Gender Diversity

●      Experience of providing consultation to a range of staff groups

●      Experience of working with, and addressing issues of, diversity, including experience of working within a multicultural framework

●      Knowledge of psychological theories relevant to this client group, including neurodiversity and the evidence base for the relevant treatment

●      Advanced knowledge of a range of therapy models in assessment and treatment

●      Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues and child protection.

●      MSc level knowledge of research methodology and complex statistical analysis.

●      Knowledge and understanding of race and other diversity issues and factors affecting access to mental health care.

Essential

●      Highly specialist skills in the use of complex assessments, interpreting and integrating complex data that require analysis, interpretation and comparison, drawn from several sources

●      To communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with CYP, families, colleagues and external agencies overcoming sensory, emotional and cultural barriers to communication

●      Highly specialist skills in providing consultation to the multi-professional team or other professional groups within the service

●      Skills in providing teaching and training to other professional groups

●      Advanced knowledge of and skill in using a wide variety of systemic theories and interventions and the ability to use these appropriately in relation to client need and work setting

●      Ability to work with a number of clients and systems together, managing the highly complex emotional relationships within and between the component parts of the systems in ways which maximise the potential for therapeutic outcomes

●      Well-developed IT skills including entry and analysis of research data and for teaching purposes

●      Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning and taking some leadership roles

●      Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate

●      Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic meetings

●      Ability to manage highly complex situations involving multiple difficulties, and competing/conflicting views about those difficulties; and to help create contexts that develop systemic engagement, and harness the strengths and abilities of those involved in order to work towards solutions

●      Willingness to see clients from time to time in both London and Birmingham
